A New Beginning.

Jackie Bradley Jr.

Jackie Bradley Jr.

Yesterday the majority of MLB teams kicked off their 2013 season, and there was plenty of story lines to go along with it. The one that caught my eye, Jackie Bradley Jr. He came into spring training a long shot to make the team, and guess what? He made the damn team. This is exactly what the Boston Red Sox needed, they needed a new start. Seconds, minutes, hours before game time, all attention was on Jackie. He probably couldn’t have found himself with a tougher opponent to hit against in his first major league at bat, which was against all star lefty CC Sabathia. He quickly went down in the count 0-2 and remarkably brought the count to 3-2 before earning the walk. The next batter hit a ball in the hole and Jackie hustled so hard that he was able to beat the throw to second which later sparked a 4 run inning for the Sox. The Red Sox ended up handling the Yankees 8-2 for the final score. Their first lost since the 80’s on opening day. But that wasn’t the story. The story was Jackie Bradley Jr. Who ended up drawing 3 walks, 1 RBI, and then scoring 2 of his own. No rookie has ever done that in the history of Major League Baseball on opening day.
